  • Open Enrollment is November 1st through December 15th each yeat. During The Open Enrollment Period, individual health insurance can be obtained without underwriting and pre-existing exclusions.
  • A Special Enrollment Period is a period outside of Open Enrolment where an individual or family experiences a “Life Changing Event” such as: loss of employer group coverage, expiration of COBRA benefits, Birth or Adoption of a child and change of residence state or marriage.

Short Term Medical Insurance
  • Short term health insurance is a temporary health insurance plan that covers from 30 up to 185 days in the state of Oregon.
  • This type of insurance is available to individuals who are going to experience a gap in their health insurance coverage for certain reasons such as: a change in job, needing coverage prior to group health insurance starting, or seasonal employees.
  • Short term health insurance excludes pre-existing conditions which includes any illness or injury that has been diagnosed, treated, or symptomatic in the last 5 years.

  • A tax credit is a refundable credit that helps eligible individuals and families cover the premiums for their health insurance purchases through the Health Insurance Marketplace. To be eligible for a tax credit you’ll need to meet certain requirements and file a tax return.

  • Small groups are less than 50 individuals, large groups are more than 50 individuals.  
  • Group health plans provides multiple tax breaks as well. Some of these are found through employer paid premiums and premium only plans (these allow employee-required contributions to be paid pre-taxed.)
  • Group health insurance often encompasses Dental, Vision & Prescription Drug Coverage.
